Blurb

Brand new plot bunny I hatched with thoughts of subbing to Harlequin in mind. I'll be posting excepts as the stories are written.

Karmic Payback
"I'm going to close my eyes, and when I open them you had better be gone, Karma." Tess scowled as she closed her eyes, rubbing them with her hand.

When she opened them, she found herself staring into the dreamy brown eyes of a Greek god. His dark, sensual features and seductive smile caused Tess' heart to skip a beat as it suddenly became very warm in the room. Enveloped in the finest Armani suit, curly black hair just barely brushing the collar, he was every woman's wet dream come true.

"Janet, would you come into my office, please?" He straightened from his position, leaning against her desk and gave her some breathing room.

Janet? Who in the hell was the way-too-smoothly handsome male? She was about to ask when an annoying intrusive voice entered her head.

Tess, you're now in Janet Mulligan's life. It's up to you to smooth out the situation between her and Brad Morgan. As Karma spoke to her, memories of Janet's life began to flood her.

Blinking in surprise at the man staring at her, Tess considered leaving very quickly until she caught a glimpse of herself in a mirror hanging on the opposite wall. That wasn't her. Mentally, she screeched at Karma, "Get me out of here now, you son of bitch!"

"Janet?" The senior partner of the firm, Alexandros Rosso, repeated her name questioningly.

You're stuck until everything is resolved. Karma's smugly calm tone only infuriated her even more.

"What? Huh?" Tess snapped at the man. When his brow rose in reaction, Tess realized she'd better moderate her voice. "You want me in your office, Alexandros?"

She carefully said his name just in case he suspected she might not be Janet. A second later the stupidity of that thought hit her. Of course he believed she was Janet.

"If you can spare a moment for me."

The sardonic inflection made Tess bristle and flash an irritated look at him. She didn't have time for this. "Yeah, sure."

He paused in the doorway, hand resting on the doorknob as he glanced at her from over his shoulder. Now that was a fucking fine ass. A feeling of revulsion suddenly rose in her, making Tess realize Janet didn't like Alexandros.

"Are you coming, Janet?"

Caught in the act of staring at his backside, Tess ignored his amused expression as she stood and stepped around the desk to join him.

"I know you have to pick Brad up at the airport at six, so I'll make this as short as possible." Alexandros stopped in front of his office, then opened the door for her.

She had to pick up Brad? What airport? The details of Janet's life weren't fully clear to Tess just yet. She breezed past him to settle in the chair in front of his desk. "What is it you want to talk about?"

In answer, he picked up a folder and handed it to her. "I'm afraid this isn't very good news. It concerns your brother."

"My brother? I don't-" Tess stopped abruptly, remembering Janet did have a brother. "Oh, yeah, my brother. What about him?"

"Read it, please."

The words were in the nature of an order, and Tess struggled to refrain from biting his head off. She opened the folder and began to read the report. At first, she couldn't make heads or tales of the mention of some astronomical amounts of money. Tess glanced over at Alexandros, noting the smug satisfaction on his face. There was also an oddly possessive feel to the gaze that rested on her.

Puzzled, Tess resumed looking over the neatly typed columns of numbers. Before she even got to the part about who was behind the embezzling, Tess figured Janet's brother was in a deep load of shit.

"Eric is stealing from the company?" What in the hell did he expect her to do about this? She knew Eric was younger than Janet, and Janet adored him. What in hell would Janet do about it?

Alexandros leaned over, plucking the folder from her then settled back in his chair. "It's a very serious matter. Eric has taken over a hundred thousand dollars from various accounts. I haven't called the police into it because I wanted to discuss it with you first. I'm exceedingly reluctant to involve the cops."

"No shit." Tess blurted out. On the heels of her expletive, her mind delivered her a swift kick as a reminder that Janet didn't cuss. Oh hell, it was a special circumstance.

"I would consider personally repaying the amount before the books are audited, and allowing Eric to remain with the company in a different position, but I would require something in return." His piercing gaze remained steadily on her, giving her no hint of his thoughts.

"It would take me a long time to pay that kind of money back." Tess said reluctantly. From what she knew of Janet's finances, she figured it to be true. Most of her money was tied up in investments that couldn't be easily liquidated.

"I won't require that, Janet, as long as you agree to marry me."

Tess wasn't sure she heard him right at first. Her mouth dropped opened, and she stared in shock at him. Her first instinct was to lunge across the desk at him. Was he fucking kidding? The Greek bombshell was blackmailing her? What kind of nightmare had Karma landed her in?

"You're blackmailing me to marry you?"

"I see it as an opportunity to give you what you want in return for what I want." He smoothly glossed over what the situation really was.

Rating: M/F Romance

Well, how to explain this one. In all of her incarnations, Tess has been the greatest stumbling block to True Love. She's broken up such greats as Osiris and Isis, Romeo and Juliet, Helen of Troy and Paris, Achilles and Patroclus.

In her recent incarnation as a pyschic, Tess is forced to fix what she screwed up with the help of Karma. Each story will focus on Tess getting two couples back together as they should have originally been. Being subbed to the Harlequin Nocturne line.
